Interview with Fashion Designer: Jay Hollis

It’s not often you find brands that cater to the lgbtq+ community and provide good quality work. I noticed a brand on Instagram that, at the time, was offering two-piece sets for the summer. No matter if you wear men or women’s clothing, two-piece sets were trending this summer. I received two items from this brand you will learn about very shortly, and months later, I connected with the designer Jay Hollis.

Let’s get started.

Hey, tell us your name and a little bit about yourself?
Hi, my name is Jay Hollis. I’m from Delray Beach, Fl; it’s a small city in South Florida. I’m the owner and creative director of London Logan Clothing co.

What is your clothing brand’s name again so they won’t forget, and what inspired you to start your brand?
My clothing line name is London Logan. It started in high school as a response to other T-shirt lines popping up. I felt compelled to give people more than just a t-shirt line.

That is amazing. You definitely have a variety of designs in your clothing brand.

Who is your target audience?
My goal is to give studs and transmen another option when getting dressed because I design with them in mind.

Did you attend fashion school, or are you a self-taught designer?
No, I actually attended Florida Atlantic University, where I studied business management and entrepreneurship. I did have plans on going to fashion school, but things didn’t pan out that way.

What advice would you give to an up and coming fashion designer?
To not limit yourself. There are no rules that say you have to follow this certain path of becoming a fashion designer. In hindsight, design what you feel is missing from the market.

What are your top three designs from your clothing brand, and why?
1. Volt 2.0 tracksuit because the sleeves zip off and also because it was the first cut sew item from my sketchbook

As you guys can tell, my favorite is the Volt 2.0 tracksuit as well. I loved the lime green and gray together, and I loved the material of the shorts.

2. Patchwork denim jeans- They’re just a really simple yet dope pair of jeans.

3. Black mosaic design shirt that features black, royal blue, lime green, and hints of white with small traces of pink white. It was a design I created because the colors were stuck in my head.

How has social media helped your brand’s success over the years?
Social media has been great because we’re an online-only store, and social media has allowed us to extend our reach beyond our local community.

The last question, you do not restock on any items that sell out. I know why, but let the readers know your reason behind it. Why don’t you restock on items that have sold out?
Two reasons: Exclusivity and challenge. No one wants to wear the same thing as everyone else. And it creates higher respect from our customers because they know they’re buying items that are limited releases.
Secondly, no restocking or rarely restocking challenges me to produce something greater.

Yes, everyone loves exclusive items, so I definitely understand, and I love that you are challenging yourself in the process.

Jay, thank you for taking the time to interview with me and being my first guest speaker on my blog. I cant wait to see what designs you have for the fall/winter, and I look forward to collaborating in the future.
